What Shade of GREEN Are You?
We are normal parents living in a small town in Ohio. About a year ago we were fortunate enough
to bring our own baby girl into this world. At that point we started to
realize that the decisions we made as a parent would impact her life now
and in the future. Around the same time, the scare with lead paint in
children's toys was in the news. We thought it was important as parents
for us to make some changes to better protect our child and in the same
respect better protect our planet.
After making the decision to become more green for our baby and the planet
we set out to learn as much as we could. What we learned was a couple of things.
Being green is expensive and no one person can do everything. We made a decision to
do our part as best we could as parents making the decisions we thought would
have the most impact on our child. Our biggest decision was to try and avoid
products that contained Bisphenol-A, thought to increase the amount of hormones
circulating in the body. As we get better at this we are trying to make more
green choices and make our shade of green a little brighter. We have learned
it is a process of learning and making choices that will make us green. We wanted to
create a site that gave parents and families the opportunity to go green at
a pace right for each person. We decided to select products that we believe
in some regard are green - whether it is the materials that went into making
the product or the durability and therefore the decreased need
to replace the product - and apply shade ratings to each of these products.
In the end if nothing better happens from creating this site than us becoming more
aware and more green for our baby and our planet then we are satisfied. Although we
hope there are other families out there that want to make the same decision to
purchase these green products for the babies in their lives too.
